Usage Recommendations
- Who needs it: Ballistic prone-position neck protection is designed for service members in combat without restricting head mobility — in particular for combat-vehicle operators, artillery crews and snipers in the prone position.
- Types of tasks: This protective item shields the neck from fragments and bullets. It is especially important with a low soldier silhouette — for example, when firing from cover or performing tasks while lying down.
- Why you need it: Compared with a traditional gorget with a stand-up collar, the prone gorget provides better ventilation and restricts mobility less, while still providing reliable protection of key arteries and airways.
- Who it's not for: This type of protection may be less effective for soldiers performing active maneuvers while standing, where protection above the neck zone — including the throat and chin — is required.
- Benefits of use: The prone gorget provides a balance between the protection needed and comfort, without distracting the soldier from their tasks.
