The reason is the types of injuries.
Most wounds in a combat zone are fragmentation (shrapnel) ones. Injuries from them are often unpredictable due to their size, shape and uneven edges. Therefore, besides protecting the chest area, it's worth remembering the importance of safeguarding other areas of the body too, where vital organs, tendons and arteries are located.
What solution do we offer?
With this in mind, at one time we developed the FAS™ anti-fragmentation armor suit with DSTU Level 2 soft ballistic protection. For comparison: the total area of body protection in the armor suit exceeds the protected area in body armor by 520%.
The FAS™ armor suit consists of a plate carrier, a war belt, and modules that provide protection of the stomach, neck, collarbones, shoulders, groin, and the outer and inner parts of the thighs.
Here are the main technical characteristics of the product:
Fabric material: Cordura® 500D with an anti-infrared coating (NIR).
Soft ballistic protection (soft armor) material: ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE)
Soft armor protection level: Level 2 under DSTU 8782:2018 (TT pistol, 7.62 mm bullet of the 57-N-134 pistol round; small fragments).
Soft armor anti-fragmentation resistance: V50 650 m/s per STANAG 2920, VST 01.301.003-2015.
Total weight of the armor suit: ~7.7 kg.
Besides using the full set of 9 modules, you can also order the suit's modules separately. The modules are compatible with any Ukrainian Armor™ plate carrier: RPC™ and FPC™. For the plate carrier we recommend additionally choosing light ballistic plates made of UHMWPE or UHMWPE + ceramic.
