Ukrainian Armor™

The specifics of military service are such that risks to a serviceman's health exist not only directly during participation in combat, but also after demobilization. According to the NHSU, common at the front are exacerbations of infectious diseases, in particular HIV and hepatitis, as well as cardiovascular and mental illnesses, and so on. However, the most widespread problems were and are those with the musculoskeletal system. Why? Because of excessive physical load.

The spine, knees and joints are the first to take the hit, since it is on these "pillars" that the entire kit of gear rests, the gear with which the warrior goes on a mission. Personal protective equipment, whose weight can reach 20 kg, directly affects combat effectiveness and can subsequently lead to health problems. Especially if the distribution of this mass on the body is uneven.

Wear time and comfort

The acceptable time for wearing body armor depends not only on the weight of the product itself, but on the individual characteristics of the soldier, in particular their physical fitness and the specifics of their work. For example, the duration of armor use may be even several hours longer for a person who has a well-developed muscle corset.

Depending on the working conditions (whether it's the line of contact or rear areas), there is a necessary time of equipment use. On the front line it's mostly necessary to wear armor almost around the clock, since there is a constant risk of sudden attacks. In that case the maximum wearing time is determined directly by the situation. However, even under such conditions it's worth taking breaks to avoid injury and to prevent excessive fatigue.

Yes, regardless of the circumstances, the permissible duration of wearing body armor is affected not only by external factors, such as ballistic threats, but also by internal ones — the soldier's condition. This approach will ensure maximum combat capability for the warrior and at the same time help prevent potential health risks.

The farther from the front line, the more opportunities there are to shorten the time of wearing body armor, since in relatively safe conditions protection is usually used "selectively", that is, directly during the performance of certain tasks.

Manufacturers' recommendations

Compliance with the regulations enshrined in the orders of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine is extremely important for everyone who uses body armor in their professional activities. These documents contain clear requirements and recommendations for the use of body-armor equipment, and in particular they regulate the permissible duration of wearing it.

Body armor wear time depends on the threat level and the specifics of the tasks performed. In high-risk zones, body armor must be worn continuously.

Breaks during wear. To preserve effectiveness and comfort, the orders provide for mandatory pauses that help prevent overexertion and the possible negative consequences of prolonged use of equipment.

Importantly, the requirements of Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect changes in the security situation and new research on body-armor effectiveness.

The effect of weight on comfort and wear duration:

– Light models (2–3 kg): suitable for wear up to 24 hours, providing a basic level of protection and comfort in situations requiring mobility.

– Medium weight (3–5 kg): the optimal option for moderate use, with a permissible wear time of up to 12 hours. Combines sufficient protection and relative comfort.

– Heavy body armor (5–6 kg and above): designed for short-term use in high-risk conditions, with a permissible wear time of 8–10 hours and mandatory breaks.

Keep in mind that at elevated temperatures and high humidity the permissible wearing time decreases. After prolonged use it's necessary to take off the body armor and let the body rest, since excessive fatigue can significantly affect reaction speed and mobility, which is critical in combat conditions.

Types of body armor and their purpose

We designed four types of body armor that differ in functional purpose and structural features.

The "Burevii" body armor and the "Ruta Liuta" women's anatomical body armor

"Burevii" is a tactical body armor for the military. Its protected area exceeds standard plate carriers with plates by 2.5 times! "Ruta Liuta" is the first body armor of Ukrainian manufacture created specifically for women. Its main feature is the anatomical cut that takes into account the structure of the female body, ensuring a snug fit and coverage of vulnerable zones. Both models of body armor can be supplemented with anti-fragmentation modules that protect the neck, shoulders, stomach, groin area and other critically important areas. Since this is tactical gear, the "Burevii" and "Ruta Liuta" have MOLLE panels for attaching additional gear.

The "Hard" concealed-carry body armor

"Hard" is a light body armor with soft ballistic packages over its entire area. It is ideal for everyday use in conditions of heightened danger (for law-enforcement officers, guards, work at checkpoints, etc.). Despite its large protected area (30–40 dm²), its weight remains comfortable — from 2.5 to 3.4 kg depending on the size.

The "Sivar" modular body armor

"Sivar" is a universal anti-fragmentation solution. Thanks to its ergonomic design, the body armor distributes weight evenly, ensuring comfort during work. And the removable module reliably protects the neck. The velcro system lets you tightly secure the body armor on the body for maximum protection and convenience.

Safety and protection effectiveness

Again, the weight of the body armor is a key parameter, since it can create a significant load on the back and joints, especially if it's distributed unevenly. This directly affects maneuverability and endurance. Therefore, when choosing gear it's important to find the optimal balance between the level of ballistic protection and its mass.

No less important a role is played by the body armor's construction. The anatomical features of the body must be taken into account when choosing gear, so that it fits snugly to the torso, providing maximum protection of the body's organs, while at the same time not restricting movement during the performance of tasks.

Key requirements for body armor:

– A test protocol — the product must meet established quality standards (DSTU).

– High-quality materials — the body armor must be fit for use in extreme conditions. The best choice is models made of genuine Cordura fabric.

– Optimal weight distribution — smart design evenly distributes the load, since even slight excess weight becomes noticeably felt over time.

– Proper fit — the gear must cover critically important zones without restricting movement. Be sure to check whether you can comfortably hold your weapon and move freely.

– Additional comfort — ventilation panels help remove heat and moisture, which is especially important during prolonged wear.

Considering these factors, you can choose reliable body armor that provides the necessary level of protection and won't be an obstacle while performing your duties.
